Eva Hamill Retires As Sacristan

After decades of service as sacristan in St. Mary’s Church, Bellurgan and subsequently, in Our Lady of The Wayside Church, Jenkinstown, , Eva Hamill here retired officially from her sacred duty on Saturday 16 February 2013.

During a visit to the schoolEva told the pupils that she was a sacristan for over thirty years, serving under many Parish Priests and Curates here in our parish. She is a great friend of ours here in the school over the years. She was present as many of our older pupils made their First Communion and First Confession and was always very helpful and accommodating to the teacher who was preparing their class for these sacraments. Her generous spirit and goodwill was always to the fore.

She has many happy memories of years gone by during her role as sacristan, but none more surely than last year when during the Parish Mission she was presented with St Patrick’s medal for her devotion and commitment to the church.

On behalf of the school we would like to wish her many happy years in her retirement, we are so grateful to her service to our community here in Bellurgan. To show our appreciation of her years of dedication to God in her role as sacristan, we made a presentation of a bouquet of flowers.
